Who is Erin Carter? Meet the cast and rising stars in Netflix’s new drama series

Netflix’s new drama Who Is Erin Carter? was released on August 24 and centres around the secretive teacher whose name inspires the title.

Carter’s past catches up with her after she and her family have moved to Spain when she is present at an armed robbery. 

When she takes on the robbers in an explosive action scene, questions start to arise about how a teacher could be so street savvy. 

The show features a range of stars from bright young things to established names.

Evin Ahmad – Erin Carter

The title role is filmed by Evin Ahmad – a Swedish actress with Kurdish heritage, who has become a household name in her home country after appearances in locally produced film and television.

Those included fellow Netflix originals Quicksand, The Rain, and Snabba Cash.

More recently, she has received more recent global acclaim such as being named the Rising Star at 2022’s Berlin International Film Festival. 

Sean Teale – Jordi

Erin’s partner Jordi is played by Sean Teale.  

The English actor broke through with performances in series 5 and 6 of Channel 4’s teen drama Skins as Nick Levin in 2011 and 2012.

Since then, he has worked on ITV’s Mr Selfridge, X-Men spin-off The Gifted, and Disney+’s comedy retelling of Romeo and Julliet called Rosaline.

Indica Watson – Harper

Indica Watson, aged 13 at the time of the series’ release, plays the role of Erin’s daughter – Harper.

Despite her young age, she has already been on-screen for years.

Watson was just six when she appeared in series 2 of BBC drama The Missing, and featured in the final episode of hit programme Sherlock on the same channel a year later – as the young version of Sherlock and Mycroft’s secret sister Eurus Holmes.

More recently she starred alongside Keeley Hawes and Aisling Loftus in Sky Max’s horror The Midwich Cuckoos.

Douglas Henshall – Daniel Lang

Daniel Lang is the wealthy father of one of Mrs Carter’s students, who takes an interest in the teacher. 

Douglas Henshall takes the role, and is one of the show’s more established stars.

He is best known for his nine years as Detective Inspector Jimmy Perez in BBC crime drama Shetland, starting in 2013, and four-year stint in sci-fi programme Primeval from 2007 to 2011.

The Scottish actor broke through in the 1990s on TV shows like Young Indiana Jones, The Bill, and Lipstick On Your Collar.

While the majority of his work has some on the small screen, Henshall has also performed on stage and in movies. 

Denise Gough – Lena

Another mysterious character in the series is Lena – who is played by Denise Gough. 

The Irish actress is the seventh of 12 children and moved to London aged 15 to train in acting.

Gough recently made a significant appearance in Star Wars spin off Andor, prequel to Rogue One, as Dedra Meero.

Away from the screen, Gough has been the recipient of multiple awards for stage performances in People, Places and Things, and Angels in America.

Jamie Bamber – Jim Armstrong

Similar to Henshall, Jamie Bamber is an established British actor who broke through on TV in the 1990s.

Bamber plays Detective Inspector Jim Armstrong, another character with previous with the title star in Who Is Erin Carter?

Bamber’s most notable performances came in the British adaptation of US series series Law & Order, where he featured alongside Bradley Walsh, Robert Glenister, and Freema Agyeman, and as Lee Adama in American sci-fi franchise Battlestar Galactica.

Susannah Fielding – Olivia

One of the cast who has gained notoriety more recently is Susannah Fielding, who stars as Olivia – the school’s eccentric secretary.

Fielding is best known for her supporting role alongside Steve Coogan in This Time With Alan Partridge.

The Dorset native began her acting career in theatre, but made cameo appearances in shows such as Doctor Who, The Bill, and Midsummer Murders from the late 2000s.
