Whole Foods recalls tortilla chips over undeclared milk after a customer found ‘other snacks’ in their bag

  • A customer got in touch, saying their pack contained other snacks, not just tortilla chips
  • On further inspection, investigators found the rogue extra snacks contain dairy
  • Customers with 365 Everyday Value White Corn Tortilla Chips dated best before Jan 24-25, 2019 are eligible for a full refund of $2.99

Whole Foods has recalled a range of tortilla chips over ‘undeclared milk’ after a packaging error led to other snacks being mixed into the same bag.

The chips, 365 Everyday Value White Corn Tortilla Chips, were sold across the United States and Canada.

But the company has issued an immediate recall after a customer got in touch, saying their pack contained other snacks, not just tortilla chips.

On further inspection, investigators found the rogue extra snacks contain dairy.

Since dairy is one of the eight food groups responsible for the most allergic reactions in the US and Canada, manufacturers are required to specify even traces of the stuff.

Though the packaging already warns readers that it was ‘produced in a facility that processes milk’, that is not strong enough to warn customers of a significant risk of contamination.

‘People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product,’ the FDA said, announcing the voluntary recall this week.

The 20-ounce bags have best-by dates of January 24 or January 25, 2019. They feature the UPC code 9948247145.

Anyone who purchased a pack is eligible for a full refund of $2.99.
