Whoopi Goldberg, 67, claps back at The View heckler who called her an ‘old broad’ on live television

Whoopi Goldberg clapped back at a sassy audience member who called her an ‘old broad’ on live television on Wednesday.

The 67-year-old co-host of ABC’s long-running talk show The View responded, ‘Did you just call me an “old broad”? Yeah.’

The longtime Hollywood fixture continued, ‘She said, “You old broad,” and I was like, “Hey, it’s Wednesday, and I am an old broad, and happy about it!”‘

The confrontation erupted at the top of the show as the five hosts – Goldberg, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, Joy Behar, and Alyssa Farah Griffin – took their seats.

The camera then showed two masked-up audience members, focusing on one wearing a dark fur hat and eyeglasses. 

Hostin chimed in to note that being an older person is better than being a deceased person.

‘The alternative is not attractive to any of us,’ added Goldberg. ‘We all want to be old broads and old dudes, you know?’

Response: The camera panned to the audience member as Goldberg noted, ‘I am an old broad, and happy about it!’

Whoopi was dressed in a green and navy blue plaid limited edition DAP GAP zip-up hoodie from the brand’s collaboration with Dapper Dan.

She added form-fitting dark pants and a pair of fresh white sneakers as she appeared on the TV screens of millions.

Her dark, locked hair was parted down the center and rested over her chest in a long bob.

Earlier this month Whoopi, who is set to grace the screen for a third edition of the Sister Act franchise after 30 years, urged her former co-star Dame Maggie Smith to reprise her role as well.

The actress and TV personality admitted that she ‘just can’t do it’ with anyone other than Maggie taking on the Mother Superior character as she discussed the new flick.

Talking with Loose Women’s Judi Love, Whoopi was asked about plans for the third installment, which Disney+ confirmed in 2020.

She explained: ‘You know, one of the things that I want to make sure I do while I’m here is… I want to let Maggie Smith know that I’m holding the part of Mother Superior for you [Maggie]. 

‘Because I just can’t do it with anybody but you. So if you need me to come over here [to England] and shoot and do whatever we have to do, we will do whatever you want us to do, but we don’t want to do it without you.’

It’s not the first time Whoopi – whose real name Caryn Elaine Johnson – has reached out to her former co-star either as she pleaded the same thing while appearing on The One Show last year.
