Who’s who in the complicated family of William Tyrrell

Detective Chief Inspector Gary Jubelin says there is still a $1 million reward for information leading to William’s whereabouts

The police officer spearheading the investigation into William Tyrrell’s disappearance has categorically ruled out the involvement of his foster or biological family and reiterated a $1 million reward for information.

Detective Chief Inspector Gary Jubelin made the remarks on Tuesday, the third anniversary of the little boy’s disappearance from his foster grandmother’s house in Kendall, on the NSW North Coast.

‘I have ruled out the foster care parents and have ruled out the biological parents has being involved in this investigation,’ he confirmed to reporters.

Detectives believe ‘human intervention’ was responsible for his disappearance and said the investigation into his disappearance is ‘very much active’.

The boy’s confusing family tree has been the subject of public fascination since a Supreme Court justice allowed his foster care status to be revealed last month.

‘The truth to date has been obscured,’ Justice Paul Brereton said. ‘The public has admittedly been given to think that (William)’s carers are his parents.’

In light of this, Daily Mail Australia explains who’s who in the toddler’s complicated family tree.

Karlie Tyrrell gave birth to William on June 26, 2011. He is the son of her estranged partner, Brendan Collins.

Collins, also known as ‘Bonesy’, has been described as a ‘career criminal’ by some reports. But a relative said: ‘I wouldn’t say he’s made a career out of it’.

Brendan has served time in jail – and has reportedly faced court for drug offences on several occasions – but was released from prison in March.

Stay-at-home mother Ms Tyrrell has at least two brothers. She and her siblings were raised in a public housing estate in Macquarie Park.

Karlie is now focused on raising her two boys. ‘I don’t want everyone’s sympathy,’ she has told Daily Mail Australia.

The foster parents

William was about nine months old when he went into out-of-home foster care.

He taken in by a wealthy family from Sydney’s north shore and was being raised by them at the time of his disappearance.

The arrangement was intended to be permanent. The foster family were even renovating their house to create William’s ‘forever family home’.

The foster mother and father have regularly spoken out in media interviews. But they have expressly requested not to be identified.

Hetty Johnson, the CEO of child protection group Bravehearts, recently told AAP: ‘We should all respect their grief and their desire for anonymity.’

Natalie Collins is the mother of William’s father, Brendan.

She has been the most prominent face of the family, regularly speaking out on his behalf.

In an interview with the Daily Telegraph last year, she said: ‘I wish he was alive, but I don’t think he is.’

After the biological family’s names emerged, she told the Daily Mail: ‘They made us look like criminals for so long with all the secrecy and not naming us.’

Brendan’s father is Quakers Hill man Daryl Clifford.

Daryl has another son, 5 Seconds of Summer guitarist Michael Clifford, with his wife Karen.

Ms Collins said the family let William, Karlie and Brendan stay at their home briefly when he was a baby.
