While it is an undeniable privilege to be able to travel internationally, no one who has ever taken a flight to Europe with kids under five can claim it to be a relaxing way to spend 24 hours.

As a mum of three with an expat partner and family overseas, I have some decent experience under my belt with long-haul family travel, and plenty of tricks and tips – usually learned from doing the wrong thing first – to make the journey as stress-free as we dare to dream it can be.

I’ve saved, screenshot, and eagerly absorbed many a ‘top 10 tips for travelling with toddlers’ list over the years, and tried and tested many of the ideas that are repeatedly thrown about.

Some are basic yet brilliant – purchasing a handful of budget (and silent) toys and wrapping them individually to elongate the entertainment. Triangular shaped pencils that won’t roll off the tray table. The list goes on.

In the same vein, there are certain ‘must-haves’ items that many parents name as their absolute non-negotiable when travelling. For me? A good travel pram.

Picture this: You’ve survived the flight, your toddler was inexplicably awake for most of it but decided to nod off 30 minutes before landing. You’re carrying them off the plane, while also laden down with your carry-ons.

The moment you step off the aircraft and onto the jet bridge, a quick, one-handed motion and your pram goes from being carried on your shoulder to upright and ready to receive your sleepy bub with barely a pause. Clip them in and you’re on your way into the terminal, and the passengers disembarking behind you won’t even have been held up.

Tell me that’s not every travelling parent’s fantasy (beyond a unicorn child who manages to self-adapt to a new time zone jet lag-free… do they exist?) – UPPAbaby have made it a reality.

The brand new UPPAbaby MINU V3 Travel Pram Stroller boasts a one second, one-hand fold. You read right. In one second your pram goes from folded to upright.

No awkward re-assembly, or needing both hands to press latches on either side of the chassis together to release the frame.

Just a press and flick and the MINU V3 is ready to roll. Game changing.

Most of us have experienced the opposite at some point – dumping bags on the ground so you have both hands to unlock and unfold the pram, you’re sweating trying to get it unlatched, the exhausted toddler’s crying, people are staring.

It’s not a fun way to kick off your holiday.

When negotiating busy airport terminals, queues at check in or taxi ranks, and long days of exploring once you’ve reached your destination – a reliable set of wheels can genuinely make a huge difference in how your journey pans out.

The 7.6kg MINU V3 comes in four colourways – black, charcoal grey, blue and pearl grey – and is currently on sale for $799, down from the usual $899.

Even if your kid is entering a more independent age bracket, travel is tiring, and they will be grateful to collapse into their moving throne and take in the sights in reclinable comfort.

While UPPAbaby had me at one–second unfold, the pram boasts a host of other brilliant features that make it a travel must-have.

The slim design ensures it can be taken on board your flight and stowed in any overhead compartment with IATA-compatible dimensions.

It also has a handy carry strap so you can throw it over your shoulder for hands-free carrying when folded.

Despite it’s compact size, the pram has a roomy storage basket which can hold up to 9.1kg – essential for all that stuff little ones seem to require for a singular day out: nappies, snacks, wipes, change of clothes, snacks, bottles, this week’s favourite toy, snacks, the rock they found yesterday that is now their best friend and must accompany them everywhere…

Whether you’re pounding the pavement in London, visiting the historical sights of Italy, soaking up the Greek islands, or heading to the seaside in Spain, the front and independent rear suspension ensures it’s a smooth and comfortable ride for a day of adventures, while the deep, lie-flat recline means they’ll have no problem dozing off on the go at nap time.

An extendable UPF 50+ water repellent canopy has kids covered no matter the weather, with a zip-up mesh peekaboo window for visibility and air flow.

With a five-point harness and cosy plush insert, the pram is suitable from birth, while a large high-back seat and footrest will keep them comfy as they grow up to 23kg, so you will get years of use out of it.

A brilliant travel pram is undoubtedly my holiday MVP: for convenience, comfort and compactness, it is worth its weight in gold. As a decently seasoned long haul traveller with children, I do NOT head to the airport without this. Ever.

A lightweight, super portable travel pram is so convenient for on the go, that I have found myself favouring it over my enormous, heavy two-piece one back home as well.

So easy to keep in the boot of the car as it takes up hardly any room, and pop up and down while rushing between school drop off, activities and errands.

The UPPAbaby MINU V3 Travel Pram Stroller ticks all of those boxes and more.
