Why The Bachelorette’s James became a stage-five clinger: Insider reveals the REAL reason for his ‘sudden’ change in personality – after he grew jealous of Joe’s connection with Elly Miles
Fans of The Bachelorette were left surprised this week by the apparently sudden change in James Boggia’s personality heading into hometown week.
The 28-year-old wakeboarder was overcome with jealousy when he discovered that fellow contestant Joe Woodbury had ‘hooked up’ with Elly Miles before the show.
While his behaviour on Wednesday and Thursday’s episodes seemingly came out of nowhere, a source told gossip website The Wash that it wasn’t that out of character.

A production source said: ‘James was an alpha in the mansion from the very start. He was cool at first with the rest of the guys, but then got comfortable and started to kind of take control in most situations.
‘As more time passed, he got jealous when anyone else spent time with the girls – and the others found it weird considering the premise of the show.’
They added: ‘It was like he felt he was being left behind as they all started making serious connections so he upped the ante a bit. It was exactly as it looks on TV.’

The focus of Elly’s storyline this week was on her history with labourer Joe, with whom she’d spent a romantic weekend before her foray into reality TV.
Several of the other suitors were upset by this revelation because they felt Joe, 25, had an unfair advantage, but no one was more annoyed than James.
In several scenes, he seemed to be brimming with anger and exerting all of his will power to maintain his composure.
After expressing concern that his rivals were forming stronger connections with Elly, he decided to take matters into his own hands by writing her a love letter.

He read the letter aloud to her at Thursday’s cocktail party, but was widely mocked by viewers who compared it to ‘Bec Hewitt’s wedding poem’.
One fan tweeted that ‘he sounded like a fifth grader reading a love letter to his crush,’ while another said: ‘James’ love letter was a straight copy and paste from the book of “‘How to Sound Genuine.”‘
Despite the backlash, his efforts were successful and he ended up receiving a rose.
The Bachelorette continues Wednesday at 7:30pm on Channel 10
