Widow, 63, who murdered her husband, 66, given life

A 63-year-old was handed a maximum sentence for shooting her husband dead in their kitchen. 

Rosalie Kennedy gunned down Gary Kennedy, 66, in their home in Logan County, Ohio, but prosecutors are still baffled by the lack of motive. 

She was the one who dialed 911 as her husband bled out on the kitchen floor in March having shot him twice. 

Kennedy said she loved her husband and that he was her world, but Judge William T Goslee sentenced her to life behind bars.

In court yesterday she continued to plead her innocence, saying: ‘I loved my husband. He was my world.

‘I love my family and he was my family. I have grieved for him every day.’ 

Speaking for the victim, the victim’s son Jason Kennedy told the Bellefontaine Examiner: ‘It’s difficult to imagine what Gary went through. Our family is deeply pained by how Gary’s life ended.

‘He did not deserve the ending of life he was given. This will haunt us forever. 

‘Listening to the 911 tape (and other evidence), I think we saw a glimpse of what he regularly experienced when he was alive,” the son said.

‘In Christ, we can forgive Rose for what she did, but we will never forget what she did.’     

Prosecutors previously believed her motive was anger, but there was no indication as to what exactly she was angry about, according to Logan County Assistant Prosecutor Alice Robinson-Bond.

Radio recordings suggest Kennedy admitted shooting her husband, according to the Springfield News-Sun.  

She can be heard clearly emotionally distraught, begging the dispatcher to send help.

When asked why she had shot her partner, she can be heard saying: ‘Because he pulled out a gun and he turned it on me and I shot him.’

The couple were involved in at least one prior domestic incident, which dated back to March 1997. 

He was convicted of disorderly conduct while the charges against her were dropped.
