Widow makes heartwarming video appeal for a lady friend

A lonely widow has made a video of his poignant Christmas wish – finding love at the age of 82.

Pat Rossiter lost his wife to Parkinson’s disease two years ago and moved himself into a retirement home looking for company.

But he said he still longed for a woman in his life – and has now filmed his plea.

Mr Rossiter said it was never too late to find love and he hoped to find a ‘lady friend’ to take out on dinner dates and enjoy long drives in the country with.

The grandfather, who moved to the retirement home in Topsham, Devon in the summer, said: ‘I came here because I couldn’t stand not seeing someone all day.

‘I used to go out on the buses, and I still do, to see people and I’ve made some friends on the buses who I meet up with.

‘What I would really like is a lady friend who I could go out to lunch with or to take out in the car around Devon. I enjoy travelling and I also like going for walks.

‘Something may develop from it or maybe not, but it would be someone just to enjoy their company. What I miss more than anything is companionship.

‘I suggest that they could bring a friend to our first meeting and I would let them choose where.’

Mr Rossiter, who was a building surveyor, tragically lost his first wife to cancer when she was only in her late 20s.

They had a son who son was just starting school at time.

He remarried and had a daughter.

In his spare time, Mr Rossiter enjoyed restoring old buses.

These days he still enjoys hands on practical tasks but on a much smaller scale.

However, he isn’t so good at modern technology and asked his local news website Devon Live to film his appeal and get his message out..

Pat added: ‘I have never kept up with mobile phones so I’ve no idea how to text.

‘I can remember my mother having a house phone for the first time and she was afraid to use it, and I’m following the same path with mobiles.’

If you would like to get in touch with Pat he has requested an email to patrossiter2@gmail.com
