Wife of ex Cardiff City manager Mark Hudson shares moment he told his kids he lost his job

The highs and lows of life as a football manager! Wife of sacked Cardiff City’s Mark Hudson shares how he told their kids he had been named boss – before posting a heart-wrenching clip as he revealed he had lost his job (but confesses, that’s football!)

The wife of former Cardiff City Manager Mark Hudson has shared the heart-wrenching moment he told his children he had lost his job – as well as the excited scenes when he previously revealed he had been hired.

Marie-Louise Hudson posted a moving clip on Instagram yesterday contrasting the moment Mark first told his kids he had been made assistant manager at Cardiff and then when he told them he had to leave.

Writing ‘we will do this journey together’ in her caption, Marie-Louise’s video showed Mark, 40, standing in front of his children telling them he was no longer manager before his two sons got up to hug him.

The father-of-three admitted ‘that’s football’ as he tells his children: ‘We’ll all go out for dinner tonight and then we’ll all pack up tomorrow’, leaving the city where his two sons were born.

The former Cardiff City manager was sacked four months into the job after the club went nine matches without a win.

He spent five years as a player for the club and was appointed as manager last year but was removed after the team drew with Wigan on Saturday, leaving the Bluebirds one place above the relegation zone and at risk of losing their place in the Championship.

The first half of the video shows Mark’s two sons cheering with excitement when they found out he had been given a job at Cardiff, with one saying: ‘I’m going to tell all my friends.’

He hugs his father and says: ‘I knew you’d get it. You’re a legend.’

The post then moves to an emotional recording of Mark telling his children: ‘I’m no longer the manager.’

He adds: ‘So we will go out for dinner tonight and then we’ll all pack up tomorrow and we’ll all go home together,’ as the two sons embrace him in a group hug.

The video ends with Mark saying: ‘That’s a good thing yeah? Don’t worry, that’s football.’

Marie-Louise wrote alongside the video: ‘I’ve debated over whether to post this video or not, it’s personal, it’s raw, it’s a high and a gutting low.

‘It’s very easy to just post the highs, the perfect parts of your life on social media, but that’s not real life.  It’s also a side to football (unless you are in the football world) you won’t ever see.

‘Mark’s chapter at Cardiff has ended and we are gutted.  This video shows the time Mark got offered a position at Cardiff and what an opportunity that was.

‘A chance to go back to the place we call home (and will always call home) and place where we hold so many precious memories, a place that we have friends that are family, the city our boys were born in, the place that gave us peace after tragedy.

‘Some may ask why I have recorded the last video but I wanted to record it for the boys, for Mark, to show them when they are older and also to show how much this opportunity meant to us as a family.

‘Football can test you to your limits, test your relationship, take you away from your family but as always we will do this journey together.

‘We will always be Mark’s number one supporters and we are so proud of everything he accomplished so far. As Mark said: “That’s football”.

‘It’s a rollercoaster and one that we will ride for years to come. Thank you to everyone that has supported us.’

The club previously said in a statement: ‘Cardiff City Football Club has relieved Mark Hudson of his duties as first-team manager.

‘The board of directors would like to place on record its thanks to Mark for all his work as a player, coach and manager while with the Bluebirds. We wish Mark all the very best of luck for the future.’
