Wife of Outback Wrangler star Matt Wright reveals vandals set off a bomb on their property after he was charged following a chopper crash that killed Chris Wilson

The wife of embattled Outback Wrangler star Matt Wright has revealed vandals set off a bomb on their property in the middle of the night after charges were laid against her husband following a deadly helicopter crash.

Wright will face trial later this year accused of perverting the course of justice over a helicopter crash in the Northern Territory’s West Arnhem Land in February 2022.

The crash killed his best mate Chris ‘Willow’ Wilson and left the pilot Sebastian Robinson a paraplegic.

Wright’s model wife Kaia has now spoken out about the intense scrutiny she, her husband and their two young children have faced in the wake of the accident.

‘One time we woke in the middle of the night to the sound of a bomb going off. Someone put a bomb in our power box and blew it up,’ she told The Sunday Telegraph.

‘If Matt’s not home I put chairs in front of my doors, it’s that constant anxiety and stress that can get hard to navigate every day and still run a business, be a mum and be a wife.’

Kaia said her four-year-old son Banjo witnessed hoons doing burnouts in front of his father and shouting ‘jail man’ at him earlier this week after they left a cafe in Darwin.

Banjo then asked his mum if his dad was going to jail.

‘What do you say to your sparkly son who just idolises their dad, what do you say to that?’ Ms Wright said.

Mr Wilson had been dangling from a helicopter owned by Wright’s company Helibrook on a crocodile egg collecting mission in February, 2022, when the aircraft crashed and killed him on impact.

Wright was charged in relation to the investigation into the crash, not the cause of the crash itself.

As part of his bail conditions, Wright is not allowed to speak to over 50 people.

He has strenuously denied any wrongdoing.

Mr Wilson’s widow, Danielle Wilson, is suing Wright personally over the crash.

Ms Wilson previously launched a civil suit against his helicopter company Helibrook and Australia’s civil aviation authority, alleging both failed in their duty of care to her late husband.

Helibrook and the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), who cleared him to be suspended from the chopper, were both named as respondents.

Ms Wright said the ‘hardest part’ about the investigation was not being able to honour Mr Wilson.

She said her husband and his mates couldn’t even get together to celebrate and remember Mr Wilson for his birthday recently because he is legally banned from seeing some of them.

Ms Wright said police raided and bugged their house while she was pregnant with their second child Dusty.

Birthday cards and love letters shared between her and her husband were all taken as part of the investigation.

She said the investigation and her husband’s charges took a devastating toll on his mental health and there were days when he couldn’t get off the couch.

Ms Wright also said she suffered severe trolling on her social media accounts, with some calling her husband a ‘murderer’.

Wright has been committed to stand trial on a charge of attempting to pervert the course of justice in the Northern Territory’s Supreme Court later this year.

Two of Wright’s co-accused, Michael Burbidge and ex-policeman Neil Mellon, have pleaded guilty to destroying evidence for their role in the incident.
