The winning numbers  for Friday’s $234 million ‘Mega Millions’ lottery game were 24-28-42-60-64, with a  Mega Ball: 8 and Megaplier: 4.

Each ticket cost $2 and if there is no winner declared, the next drawing will be announced on Tuesday. 

Sales time cut-offs vary by state. Usual times for last ticket sales, however, occur one to two hours before the numbers are announced, according to CBS News.

The lucrative Powerball drawing is scheduled for Saturday and has an estimated jackpot of $321 million.

The odds of winning either game, it should be noted, are astronomical: players who purchase a ticket have 1 in 258.9 million for Mega Millions and 1 in 292.2 million for Powerball.

According to experts at Allstate, the third largest personal lines insurer in the United States, the odds of winning both jackpots are one in 75 quadrillion. A  quadrillion has a number followed by 15 zeros. 

The average American citizen spends about $200 a year on the lottery, with varying averages depending on the state.

For example, residents in Massachusetts spend an average $735 annually on lottery tickets while Rhode Islanders throw down $514 a year.

Residents of the ‘Big Apple’ spend about $400 annually on the New York lottery, or about $33 per month.
