The region has been placed under a winter storm watch with the weather service warning or potential heavy snow. There may also be some isolated power outages due to the ‘heavy wet nature of the snow’, the NWS said in a video message posted on Twitter.

‘Plan on difficult travel conditions,’ it said. ‘Significant reductions in visibility are possible.’

Chicago and Detroit could see snow or a wintry mix Saturday afternoon. DC may see a light dusting of snow as early as 1pm on Saturday.

New York is expected to get hit Saturday evening when temperatures drop to below 32 degrees. The heaviest snow will fall from 9pm to 3am Sunday.

Boston will be hit Saturday evening when it dumps three to seven inches in the region before tapering off Sunday morning.
