Wojciech Szczesny winds up Spurs fans as he celebrates Juventus win

Wojciech Szczesny may have left Arsenal for Italian football a couple of seasons ago, but it still seems as if there is a bit of Gunner left in him.

The Polish goalkeeper is now back-up to Gianluigi Buffon at Juventus, who came from behind to beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at Wembley on Wednesday night.

The win, which sends Juve into the Champions League quarter finals and Spurs out, was celebrated by Szczesny with a little mockery of the home support.

As he followed Buffon down the tunnel after the game, Szczesny made a ‘chin-up’ gesture to the Spurs fans – pushing his chin up with his fingers.

It was an ironic dig at the home support – unlikely to have forgotten his connection to their local rivals – telling them to keep positive, as they suffered a very disappointing night.

Szczesny also goaded Spurs on social media, posting a picture of him and his team mates celebrating in the dressing room straight after the final whistle.

The Instagram post was captioned: ‘Great win and celebrations vs one of the best teams in North London. FORZA JUVE!!! #northlondonisred.’

It seems, even with Tottenham in the Champions League – unlike Arsenal – and currently way ahead in the Premier League, Szczesny knows who he considers the bigger team.

Szczesny came through Arsenal’s youth system and was at the club until 2015, when he joined Roma on loan.

He then moved to perennial Serie A champions Juve last summer, and has been fighting with Buffon for the no 1 spot all season.
