‘Woke’ Marvel Studios considering dropping ‘Men’ from ‘X-Men’ amid concerns title is not ‘inclusive’

Marvel Studios’ new ‘woke’ president Victoria Alonso is considering dropping the ‘Men’ from ‘X-Men’ to make the brand name more ‘inclusive.’

In a recent interview with Nuke the Fridge, Alonso, who just four days ago was promoted to president of Physical, Post Production, VFX, and Animation, ‘hinted that internal thinking is that the name ‘X-Men’ isn’t sufficiently inclusive.’

‘I don’t know where the future is going. It’s funny that people call it the X-Men, there’s a lot of female superheroes in that X-Men group, so I think it’s outdated,’ she said.

Alonso added that other Marvel non-movie properties are undergoing similar ‘woke’ changes, a company directive that Kevin Feige, a longtime Marvel executive, has been working on in recent years to better integrate the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the comic books, which have trended towards a change in ‘wokeness.’

The newly-minted president also has been behind an effort to turn perpetual Marvel villain Loki into a ‘gender fluid’ character.

Although the potential name change for one of Marvel’s biggest properties is rooted in a more ‘progressive’ approach to the characters of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, DailyWire reports that the underlying reason is to create opportunities to pair various Marvel characters from disparate and successful movie franchises into ‘a more expansive universe of films.’

Disney had bought the rights to X-Men last year after it purchased 20th Century Fox. Ever since, Marvel Studios has been trying to integrate X-Men characters into the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, according to Screen Rant.

Since acquiring Marvel, Disney has slowly been incorporating elements of the X-Men franchise into its other properties, with the Disney+ series ‘Wanda-vision’ introducing SWORD, a fictional American extra-governmental intelligence agency, which was at first a part of the X-Men universe.

Meanwhile, the Marvel/Disney+ television miniseries ‘Falcon and Winter Soldier’ included the fictional criminal-run island of Madripoor located in maritime Southeast Asia, which is mostly associated with stories from the X-Men series.

Marvel has already been playing with new potential names for the X-Men, with the studio currently developing an X-Men based feature film tentatively titled ‘The Mutants,’ falling in line with 2020’s ‘The New Mutants,’ which was the 13th and final installment in the X-Men film series as the franchise looks to expand further into the MCU.

‘Following news that the R-rated Deadpool 3 starring Ryan Reynolds as the mutant Merc with a Mouth will be part of the MCU, we are now learning that Marvel Chief Creative Officer, Kevin Feige, will be producing an X-Men reboot, titled ‘The Mutants,’ Hypebeast reported in March.

‘Still in the early development stages, it is currently unclear just what the team in the Marvel Studios reboot will look like.’

A script and director have yet to be attached to ‘The Mutants’ project, with Marvel executives likely waiting to see how their newest progressively ‘woke’ offerings, ‘Black Widow’ and ‘Shang-Chi,’ perform at the box office.
