Mrs Kaur, 38, was discovered unconscious by family members inside the four-bedroom detached property in Wolverhampton on Friday
Police have today released the first picture of a mother-of-two who was found murdered in her home.
Extra officers have been drafted in to aid in the hunt for Sarbjit Kaur’s killer, after she was killed during a suspected botched burglary.
Mrs Kaur, 38, was discovered unconscious by her husband and step-children inside the four-bedroom detached property in Rookery Lane, Wolverhampton, at 4pm on Friday.
Police said the mother-of-two had been assaulted and was pronounced dead at the scene when paramedics arrived.
West Midlands Police today revealed the family property was left ransacked and that number of items – including jewellery – had been pilfered.
The force said an additional 150 burglaries have already taken place in Wolverhampton this year alone.
But Detective Chief Inspector Chris Mallett said none involved occupants being subjected to serious violence.
‘Mrs Kaur was attacked in her own home,’ he said. ‘This is a shocking and thankfully rare case.
‘We are determined to bring her killer or killers to justice.
‘Forensics experts are methodically picking through items inside the house that could be of evidential value and we will be fast-tracking forensic samples for analysis.
‘We are building up a clearer CCTV picture in the immediate vicinity of the crime scene and are drafting in additional officers to help with the CCTV trawl and examination of footage.

‘We found the interior of the property in an untidy state − which could indicate it had been searched − and we believe some jewellery items are missing.
‘We are working with the family to understand exactly what items may have been taken.
‘However, the motive is unclear; we are keeping an open mind and examining several lines of enquiry.
‘I would urge anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Rookery Lane area last Friday, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to contact us.’
Early inquiries suggest some items were taken from the £250,000 property.
On Sunday, one of the windows on the house was covered by a blue sheet and there was still a large police presence

West Midlands Police also confirmed that a post-mortem examination had not revealed a precise cause of death, and further tests are now being conducted.
Chief Insp Mallett added: ‘We are re-examining many of these burglaries and expediting investigative opportunities to establish if there could be any link with Mrs Kaur’s death.
‘However, we have not seen any home invasion offences recently in Wolverhampton where extreme levels of violence have been used.’
Early enquiries suggest some items were taken from the home but Detective Chief Inspector Chris Mallett, who is leading the murder investigation, said he is ‘keeping an open mind’ on the motive for the murder.
He said: ‘Mrs Kaur was attacked inside her own home. This is a shocking case, the likes of which are extremely rare, and we have a team of officers working on this murder enquiry to establish what happened and to finding the person or people responsible.
‘The motive so far is unclear and I’m keeping an open mind regards the circumstances…we are investigating several lines of enquiry including whether this was a random burglary or if the address or Mrs Kaur were deliberately targeted.
‘The interior was in an untidy state – which could indicate it had been searched – and we believe that some items are missing. We are working with the family to understand exactly what items were taken.
‘We have carried out CCTV and house-to-house enquiries, conducted an extensive forensic examination of the scene, and working with the family to establish the victim’s movements throughout the day.
‘I would urge anyone who saw anything suspicious on Friday, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to contact my team on 101.’
Five police cars and a forensic tent could be seen outside the sprawling detached home in Rookery Lane, the Penn, on Friday
Mrs Kaur was married to Gurpreet Singh, 42, a company director who runs Dhanda Properties UK Ltd.
She was last seen alive be her husband at around 9am the Friday morning, when he left for work at the construction company where he is a director.
Neighbours told how the family, who lived in a large four bedroomed gated home, drove around in a flash Jaguar and Mercedes and had all the mod cons.
Police have revealed seamstress Sarbjit had been assaulted and found unconscious at the property in Wolverhampton, West Mids.
The house appeared to have been targeted by thieves and a number of items including jewellery had been taken.
One neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: ‘She loved to hand out gifts and was very generous, often giving out expensive sweets.
‘It was obvious they had money from the size of the house and it was decorated beautifully with all mod cons.
‘One thing they did always have was expensive cars on the drive. Usually a Mercedes.
‘Her husband worked very hard and was generous, he would allow her to buy whatever she wanted.
‘Whether someone presumed there was a lot of gold in the house because they were an Asian family is a possibility but they were not never over the top in telling everyone what they had.
‘I don’t understand how they got into the house as they made it very secure. They even had cameras set up.’
The property remained cordoned off while police continue their investigation.
The neighbour added: ‘I never saw that there was a lot of gold in the house and nether Sarbjit or Gurpreet wore much jewellery.
‘She may have worn the odd gold ring but nothing extravagant, she was very understated.
‘She was very down to earth and never one to flaunt that they had money.’
A resident living next door to the house said: ‘We’ve lived here for 20 years.
‘I used to head off to work at 5am and I used to the see the man who lived there, we would just give each other a friendly hello.
‘I never saw the woman, and didn’t know their names, but we’ve had a couple burglaries in the past.
‘The burglars wait for you to go to work and then they break in from the side gate or the back.
‘I don’t know if this area is being targeted but it is a bit worrying.’
One neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, said of the man who lived at the property: ‘I think he is a company director and involved in property in some way’
Another neighbour added: ‘I only moved in five weeks ago, and I heard about this incident on the day it happened.
‘I’m a shocked at that this has happened, this is a nice neighbourhood.
‘We’ve got to be vigilant, and do things like keeping our doors and windows locked and watching for any suspicious behaviour, just have to look out for each other really.’
Another neighbour said: ‘It’s terrible what’s happened.
‘I didn’t know them personally, they just kept themselves to themselves, but everyone in neighbour pretty much does the same.
‘I’ve been here for 50 years and I’ve had a couple of burglaries myself, but not recently though.
‘They must see the houses and think these are wealthy and just wait till everyone’s out and then jump at the chance to break in.
‘I’ve seen on the news that we as neighbours have been told to be more vigilant, and we do.’
The home has been sealed off for forensic examination and officers are conducting house-to-house enquiries in the road where properties sell for around £250,000
