A 22-year-old woman was mauled and killed by a lioness at a private game lodge in Hammanskraal, South Africa on Tuesday morning.

A spokesman for South Africa’s Netcare 911 emergency response organisation, Nick Dollman, said the attack occurred at around 11:00, Rekord North reported.

He said the lodge is just outside of the Dinokeng Nature Reserve in Hammanskraal, but could not yet reveal the name of the lodge.

‘When Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene, bystanders had initiated CPR. Tragically, the victim had sustained severe injuries and she died at the scene.’

He said the Cullinan police were on scene to investigate.

In April last year, a herd of eight elephants broke out of the reserve, which is 30 miles north of the Pretoria but were soon recovered.
