A woman who fell pregnant with her best friend’s uncle, who is 16 years her senior, says it was ‘love at first sight’ – despite the pair meeting when she was aged just 12.
Jami Bouwer, 27, from Mossel Bay, South Africa, met her future partner Nolte Lourens, 43, when visiting her pal Nikita back in 2007 when she was a pre-teen.
She became infatuated with the older man but it wasn’t until December 2020 that their paths crossed once more and the couple enjoyed a vineyard date – arranged by Nikita.
The pair, who have officially been together for seven months, have been inseparable ever since and are now are expecting their first child together in September.

‘I laid eyes on him for the very first time in 2007, I was only 12 years old and he was about 27 years old,’ Jami, who is currently unemployed, said.
‘Sounds crazy, obviously no moves were made, but that is the first time I met him. I became friends with his niece around that time and since then I’ve always had a crush on her cute uncle.
‘For me, it definitely was love at first sight, since the first day I laid eyes on him I just knew he was going to be the one.
‘I made the first move back in 2017, just before I had left South Africa to go au pair in America for two years, by telling him that one day I am going to marry him.
‘I was 23 at the time and he thought it was a joke and laughed, and that was that. Little did he know how serious I was and I just knew that one day it was going to happen. He was also in a relationship at that time.’

Jami returned to her hometown in 2019, after her stint abroad, at which time Nolte, who works as a beekeeper, had been checking out her social media pages – but their age gap meant that he was too apprehensive to get in contact at first.
‘At the beginning of 2020 he went to America for farming, he finally got the guts to send me a message and ask when I will be returning to the US, as he was there,’ she revealed.
‘After casually chatting to him on and off for a couple of months via WhatsApp while he was overseas, he finally returned home from the US.
‘He came by the bar where I worked the same day he landed and walked in behind the bar and gave me a hug.

‘The very next day we went on a sort of a date arranged by his niece to a wine farm just out of town for a wine tasting and a light meal. We got together and basically just started dating right away.
‘After our first date, that night he had leaned in to kiss me and that’s how it all started. We have officially been together for seven months now.
‘We have a connection like no other. We understand each other, we are honest with each other and the sex is amazing.’
The couple has been open about their relationship from the start, despite Nolte’s parents initially being flabbergasted that he was dating their granddaughter’s best friend.

Jami (pictured with her partner) added: ‘Everyone always knew I had a huge crush on Nolte, but no one thought it would ever become anything serious. When it did, some people were surprised and others not, but we have been open about it since day one’

‘My parents were a bit shocked because they only found out on Facebook once we made it public – they accepted it pretty easy though as they have known him for years and loved him as a person.
‘Nolte’s parents also accepted it quite easy too. Nikita was the most excited. She was rooting for us since the beginning. She also is the one that pushed and helped us to get together.
‘Fortunately for us, we have never received any negative comments. We are lucky that way.’

Meanwhile Nolte was married for five years while in his twenties, before getting divorced six years ago.
Jami revealed exactly what makes the age gap relationship work so well.
‘Nolte knows what he wants and is done with the “messing around” stage in his life,’ she explained. ‘He is more committed when it comes to love and starting a family.
‘We both want the same thing when it comes to starting a family. We are so excited to be having a baby together and to start our life together as a little family of three.

‘We love each other unconditionally and appreciate each other in every way possible. We each have our past stories and we are able to open up and accept each other as we are.
‘I think that’s what makes our relationship so special – we are so different yet so alike.’
Nolte is currently working on a farm in North Dakota, US, but will be back with his partner for the birth of their child in September.
‘Jami is young, energetic, enthusiastic, lustful, and naughty,’ Nolte said. ‘Sure there are women out there that meet those same criteria at my age, but they are very scarce and most likely have children of their own – something I can’t see myself getting involved with.’
The loved-up couple had some advice for those who also found themselves in an age gap relationship.
‘Don’t let anyone tell you what’s right or what’s wrong when it comes to love and age,’ said Jami. ‘Never focus on age, it’s literally just a number. If it feels right, then it is right. Focus on yourself – it’s your life and you have to live it.
‘Someone will always have something to say, but only you know your story, so who are they to judge? Love who you want to love and you will live a happy life.’
