Woman, 28, is left paralyzed after a huge grand PIANO fell on her and severed her spine as she helped move it for a friend

A 28-year-old woman who was helping her friend move a piano is now paralyzed from the waist down after a freak accident.

Danielle Drummond told local news station WOIO that she was in the process of putting an item under the piano when her friend lost her grip, causing it to slip and fall on top of her.

‘She dropped like a whole upright grand piano on me, and it severed my spinal cord,’ Drummond said. ‘Now, I’m paralyzed from the waist down.’

She was rushed to the hospital and underwent emergency surgery. Doctors told her that she would be in a wheelchair for the rest of her life.

‘I’m trying to keep like in high spirits because I know this is my life now, but it’s hard. As of right now I need a lot more physical therapy. I need to rebuild my strength,’ she said.

Drummond had just moved from Cleveland, Ohio to Eugene, Oregon to live out of a van with her German Shepherd when the accident happened. While moving back home with her family would make the most sense in her condition, it would be a major undertaking, especially considering the additional challenges of transporting her medical equipment.

She also said she if she wants to be able to live on her own, she will need a home health aide for the rest of her life.

‘I don’t even know like how I would get home, let alone like how to transfer all the medical stuff, and I don’t feel like I’m able right now to do like that far of a car ride or a trip in an airplane,’ she said.

‘I hope that people who are going through this don’t give up,’ Drummond said.

Her sister Rosie Hayne has set up a GoFundMe to pay for the medical costs. Hayne posted an update on her sister’s health journey on May 1, and how her sister has coped with the pain.

Doctors told her she would never walk again, a fate Drummond has accepted

‘Danielle is getting around really well in the hospital wheelchair,’ the post read.

‘She wants to make it clear that she is not expecting to ever walk again. She has accepted the reality of her situation. But she has an amazing spirit and an overall positive outlook, focusing on what she can do.’

Drummond has not mentioned her friend’s identity or if she’s apologized. The status of their friendship is unclear.
