Woman, 40, is arrested on suspicion of murder over death of three-month-old baby girl

  • Baby was found unresponsive on Saturday at a home in Croydon, south London 
  • Woman who was known to the three-month-old has been arrested today 
  • Family have been informed and a murder investigation is now underway 

A 40-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a three-month-old baby girl in Croydon. 

Police were called by London Ambulance Service just before midday on Saturday, to a report of a baby unresponsive at a home in south London.

The baby was taken to hospital but she was she was pronounced dead at around 1pm. Her family have been informed.

Police today arrested a 40-year-old woman on suspicion of murder after a baby was found dead on Saturday in Croydon, south London 

A post-mortem examination will take place in due course. Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with this investigation. 

The baby and the woman arrested were known to each other, the Metropolitan Police confirmed today.

A spokesman for the force said: ‘At this early stage, police are not looking for anyone else in connection with this investigation. The baby and the woman arrested were known to each other.

‘The investigation is being managed by the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command led by DCI Noel McHugh. Enquiries continue to establish the full circumstances.’
