Woman, 53, in a critical condition after alleged hit-and-run when Holden Commodore ran a red light

A woman has been rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries after an alleged hit and run, with the driver fleeing the scene on foot.

Just after 11pm on Friday night, emergency services were called to a two-car collision in Point Cook, about 27 km southwest of Melbourne.

Police were told a purple Holden Commodore had been travelling west on Dunnings Road, before running a red light and colliding with a grey Volkswagen Golf.

The driver and his passenger managed to escape without injuries, but a 53-year-old was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The 25-year-old driver of the Holden allegedly fled the scene on foot, but was soon arrested by police at his home address in Point Cook.

Police have urged anyone who may have been driving along Dunnings Road prior to the incident and saw the purple Holden to come forward to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

The driver is assisting with inquiries, but investigations are continuing.
