Police are currently on the scene speaking with witnesses of the crash. They have encouraged anyone with information to contact them.

‘With any incident like this, we look at so many things,’ Sgt Boorman said.

‘We can map the scene, we look at speeds … [we] speak to witnesses – so it’s a long process, but it’s so important that we do it right because we get one shot.’

‘Our thoughts go out to the family of the driver and also I’d like people to spare a thought for the emergency services personnel that are involved in these incidents.’

ACT Police have advised motorists to avoid Brisbane Avenue, Wentworth Avenue and Macquarie Street with heavy delays in place.

More to come.
