Woman discovers her Reddit Secret Santa is Bill Gates who sent over a haul weighing 81 pounds

A Michigan woman who was given a haul of gifts weighing more than 81 pounds discovered her Secret Santa was Bill Gates.   

The woman, only identified as Shelby, is from the Detroit metro area.

The billionaire philanthropist joins RedditGifts’ Secret Santa exchange each year, ABC27 reported.  

Reddit documented her opening the gifts on Twitter, stating: ‘Just when she needed it most, one lucky giftee struck Secret Santa gold & was blessed with the Christmas of a lifetime. Well done @BillGates.’ 

The 33-year-old from Michigan got items geared toward her favorites, including Star Wars

The 81 pounds of presents were so heavy that she couldn’t fit it all into her car

‘I always thought it would be super cool to be matched with him some day, but I never really would have expected this to happen to me,’ Shelby, a marketer from the Detroit metro area, told MarketWatch.com.

The amount was so large that Shelby wasn’t able to fit the box in her car. Instead she had to open the items individually at the FedEx location to place them in her car. 

Gates and his team do research for their recipient each year. 

Among the haul that Shelby unwrapped courtesy of Gates’ goodwill included memorabilia from favorite movies, books and video games.  

There was a Harry Potter Santa hat and a giant Hogwarts castle, plus a R2D2 puzzle that is no longer being sold. 

She did get two duplicate Lego Harry Potter and Star Wars sets, but ‘as for everything else, they are 100 percent what I would have bought for myself,’ she told Marketwatch.com.    

The ecstatic woman also got a handmade quilt depicting scenes from Nintendo’s iconic ‘Legend of Zelda’ video game series, which she thinks is custom made, ABC27 said.

A crate was filled with memorabilia from the show Twin Peaks, including an embroidered L.L. Bean jacket worn by a crew member. 

Her holiday bonanza also featured five scripts from the second season of the drama.   

A huge fan of The Great Gatsby, she also received a priceless gift – a bound manuscript of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s famous work of fiction, complete with scans of the author’s handwritten notes as he was writing the novel.

This woman got the surprise of a lifetime when her Reddit Secret Santa was Bill Gates

‘The Great Gatsby is my favorite novel,’ she told Marketwatch. ‘I had some lines from it in my wedding vows. So this really is a special book to me.’ 

There are several boxes of Oreos, cat treats and a hammock among her special Christmas presents.  

Perhaps the most touching gift from Santa ‘Gates’ was a donation for an undisclosed amount that made to the American Heart Association in honor of Shelby’s mother, who passed away in March. 

The package includes a photograph of Gates signing a letter enclosed as proof and he wrote:  ‘I know no gift will ever make up for losing someone so important to you. I was very sorry to hear about your mom and I’ve made a donation to the American Heart Association in her memory. I hope you and your family find your new normal this holiday season.’
