Woman discovers husband secretly filmed women and children in toilets

A young mother shopped her husband to police after discovering he’d been filming customers using a KFC toilet where he worked.

Shocked Mollie Clarke, 21, from Coleraine, Co Londonderry checked her husband Richard Cooper’s phone while it was charging in the kitchen as she suspected he was cheating on her.

But instead of finding illicit texts to another woman on the 25-year-old’s phone, she discovered sickening footage of women and children using the fried chicken outlet’s bathroom.

The cancer survivor immediately turned her husband of just 100 days in to police.

The voyeur later admitted to recording the KFC customers, and one of his own colleagues, at the Coleraine restaurant for his own sexual gratification.

It was only when he pleaded guilty in court that his devastated wife discovered he’d also made a video of her using the toilet at home in a ‘dry run’ beforehand.

Mollie said: ‘I realise now the man I thought I was married to didn’t exist. I didn’t know him.

‘He was liar who lived a double life, like Jekyll and Hyde, and I hope I’ll never see him again.’

Recalling the night in January 2017 she found the voyeur videos Mollie explained: ‘He’d just came home from doing some gardening work

‘He asked me to get my parents to lend him £500. ‘I asked him why, and he wouldn’t tell me.

‘Then he got up, put his phone on the charger, told me to not look through it before walking out.

‘It had a pass lock on it but I managed to guess it.

‘I still don’t know why but I went straight to his videos. Anyone else would have went for messages, but something told me check there.

‘The first video I saw was of a child going to the toilet. I just threw the phone down in shock.

‘I actually rang his mother, who I was close to at that time and she told me to stay there and not to do anything.

‘I hung up and looked again at his phone and I could see about four more films.

‘I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. You could see him setting up the video, his face as clear as ever, trying different angles.

‘Within about 20 minutes I was in the car with my sister and going to the police station with his phone in my hand.’

Cooper of John Street in Ballymoney, Co Antrim pleaded guilty to four charges of voyeurism for his own sexual gratification.

Earlier this month, Antrim Crown Court heard how he’d concealed his own mobile phone in a black bin on different dates between December 2016 and January 2017.

His victims included a young child, a teenage girl, a mother changing a baby’s nappy and one of his own colleagues.

All those involved were identified and informed by police of Cooper’s violation of their privacy, including his own wife. He was also sacked from KFC and dumped by Mollie.

Cooper walked free from court after a judge handed him a two year probation order. He is also subject to a five year Sexual Offences prevention Order (SOPO).

Devastated Mollie says she now fears running in to him on the street.

‘I feel like he’s got away with it to be honest. He walked free. The sentence in my eyes was far too lenient,’ she said.

‘He had disgusting videos of a child on his phone. That worries me.

‘He’s evil, there is no other word to describe him and in my eyes he should have been jailed.’

She added: ‘We’d been together about three years when I moved in with him when I was 17.

‘I’d just been diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphona and going through chemotherapy.

‘It was a low time for me, I was very sick and doctors told me that I wouldn’t be able to have children.

‘I lost my hair and put on weight because of the treatment. Richard continually reminded me that no-one would want me now, and that I was stuck with him.

‘During the treatment I was shocked to discover I was pregnant. But I was absolutely over the moon.

‘I had my little girl in 2015, and 13 months later I gave birth to my second little girl.

‘Things were still not great at home but I thought, we had a family, I had to make it work.

‘We got married in 2016 but things got worse. He continually ran me down. I also discovered he’d cheated on me with different women.

‘My self esteem was at rock bottom and in the weeks before I discovered the videos, the abuse got worse.

‘So in a way finding them was my lucky escape.’
