Woman distraught after seeing 3-year-old girl hit by car and killed

A Perth woman has opened up about the awful moment she witnessed a young girl being struck by a ute on a road outside of Perth.

Sharon Arkwright, 46, told 9 News Perth that she was driving in busy traffic about 6.30am when she saw the 3-year-old girl, dressed in her pyjamas, run out in front of her car in the middle of the four-lane road.

‘I kept asking where’s her mum and dad?’, said Ms Arkwright, who stopped her car to help the girl.

‘What was she doing in the middle of the road?’

Paramedics arrived and rushed the little girl to hospital while Sharon stayed to comfort the 30-year-old driver and called his mother for him.

‘He was so distraught, I kept telling him it wasn’t his fault, there was nothing he could have done, she just stepped out in front of him,’ she said.

But the most heartbreaking moment was when Sharon witnessed the little girl’s brother speak to emergency services.

"I saw a little dark haired boy in black pyjamas and he walked up to the police and I saw him ask if they'd seen his little sister," she said
