A woman has spoken out after finding a child in a car at a popular shopping centre on a scorching hot day.

Crystal Hughes saw a young boy in a ute at a shopping centre in Stratton, a Perth suburb.

Ms Hughes said the temperature was 34C on Friday when she saw the boy in the vehicle.

‘Sweating his little head off, I have no idea how long he had been there before I arrived,’ she said.

The boy can be seen in a car seat in the rear of the vehicle.

The window has been wound down about halfway to allow air into the car.

Ms Hughes said she spoke to the boy for 12 minutes while she waited for his father to return.

‘The authorities were called immediately and I stood by him and talked with him through the window making sure he was okay for the time the parent was away.

‘He returned to the car and left in a hurry. This behaviour needs to stop.’

Ms Hughes posted photos of the boy in the hot car on Facebook.

People shared their opinions on the woman’s actions.

‘Did you report the father? That’s unacceptable. Even if the window is cracked the heat is still so extreme,’ one woman said.

‘What the f**k is wrong with people to think this is okay.’

‘Good on you for staying with him,’ another woman said.

‘Don’t know how people think it’s okay to leave a young child unattended in any weather. Some sick f**k could easily unlock the door and abduct him.’

Another commenter suggested locking the boy’s father in a car on a hot day to ‘see how he likes it’.
