Staff at the Pullman Hotel in Penrith, western Sydney made a grim discovery on Sunday afternoon when they found the dead body of a woman, covered in blood.
A man was also found at the scene and is being held under police guard as an investigation gets underway.
Emergency services were called to the hotel on Mulgoa Road at about 1.10pm, after the woman’s body was discovered.
‘The man, believed to be in his 50s, was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition,’ the NSW Police said in a statement. The deceased woman has not yet been formally identified, but a police spokesman told Daily Mail Australia that ‘it is believed the couple is known to each other’.

Officers attached to Nepean Police Area Command have established a crime scene, with inquiries to be conducted by local detectives, assisted by the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.
Investigations at the scene are likely to continue for several hours.
