Delaware woman is catfished by a fake cruise ship captain who seduced her online and promised to marry her before asking her to wire $500 to India

A Delaware woman has raised the alarm after falling victim to an online catfishing scam perpetrated by a con artist pretending to be a lovelorn cruise ship captain.

The Better Business Bureau of Delaware shared the news of the romance scam in a tweet Sunday, which included a MoneyGram receipt dated September 29.

According to the non-profit organization, the Camden, Delaware resident met a man online claiming to be a cruise ship captain.

‘The scammer promised love, then asked for $$$, promising they’d soon be wed,’ the tweet read.

The bride-to-be dutiful wired her groom, identified as Captain James Rockwell, $500, which vanished from her account as quickly as the man vanished from her life.

According to the MoneyGram receipt, the expected destination of the money transfer was India.

‘Captain James Rockwell uses his title and position to attract women to obtain money,’ BBB of Delaware said in a statement to the station WMDT, ‘using his appearance to pretend to be deeply in love with them.’

A spokesperson for BBB of Delaware told Fox News the bogus seafarer spent several weeks seducing his mark online before asking for a handout. 

The BBB of Delaware urged Twitter users to warn others of the nautical Lothario Captain James Rockwell.
