Woman is fined $500 for carrying an APPLE given to her for free by a Delta flight crew member

  • Crystal Tadlock was flying back home to Denver from Paris when she was fined
  • She claims a Customs agent handed the fine and caused her to lose her Global Entry Status over an Apple she was given by Delta on the first leg of her trip
  • A Customs agent allegedly told Tadlock her trip was ‘about to get a lot more expensive after I charge you $500’
  • Tadlock said she was treated like a criminal and will fight the ticket in court

A Colorado woman says she was fined $500 and lost her Global Entry Status because she saved an apple Delta gave her on her way home from Paris.

Crystal Tadlock was on the first leg of her trip back to Denver when a flight attendant handed her the fruit in a plastic bag stamped with the Delta logo, she told Fox31.

Because she wasn’t hungry, she decided to save the snack for her second flight and put it in her carry-on.

But when she went through Customs, her bag was randomly checked and an agent pulled out the fruit, which was still wrapped in the plastic Delta bag.

Tadlock offered to throw it out or eat it but the agent said no and handed her a fine.

‘He had asked me if my trip to France was expensive and I said, “yeah.” I didn’t really get why he was asking that question, and then he said “It’s about to get a lot more expensive after I charge you $500,'”‘ she told Fox31.

Tadlock said Delta should have warned passengers of the consequences of taking the fruit off the plane, and she’s frustrated with Customs for treating her like a ‘criminal’ over an honest mistake.

She told local media she will challenge the $500 ticket in court.

Delta said in a statement they ‘encourage our customers to follow U.S. Customs and Border Protection protocols.’

U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, on its part, said they don’t comment on specific inspections but that ‘all agriculture items must be declared.’
