A 23-year-old woman who was found shot dead at a home north of Brisbane may have been chased by two men and assaulted before she was killed, police said.
The woman was declared dead after she was found unconscious and not breathing at a property on Railway Parade at Caboolture at about 12.10am on Sunday.
Queensland police officers tried to revive the woman, but were unable to save her.
Detectives said the death is being treated as a homicide and that the offenders have not yet been found
‘Early investigations indicate the deceased was assaulted by two male persons, who may have chased her down railway parade,’ Detective Inspector David Harbison said.
‘During that assault, the deceased received a gunshot wound. Whilst the public nature of this crime is alarming, police do not believe this to be a random attack.’
Neighbours told the ABC that they heard hearing several gunshots shortly before the woman’s body was found.
‘I heard about three or four gunshots and then a little bit of whimpering, and then I heard a man yelling out f****** c***,” one person said. ‘(It was) very scary.’

Another local said ‘We know everyone. We are like a little family. We look after everyone in the street.’
The police said the woman’s family have been told about what happened and they are ‘devastated’.
‘It’s a tragedy to lose a young life in such a violent manner’ he said.
The police said they currently have no suspects and have pleaded for anyone with any knowledge of the killing to come forward.
‘There’s people out there who know who these people are. So, to them, do the right thing,’ Inspector Harbison said.
