Woman is left horrified after waking up to discover her two-year-old climbed out of bed

A mother detailed her worst nightmare as she revealed her two-year-old boy climbed out of bed in the middle of the night and went outside through the front door, leaving him then unable to come back inside. 

The woman, based in the US, who goes by @mustangashley9 on TikTok, revealed she was woken up my police officers in her bedroom after her son left the house, without her knowing. 

She shared her ‘horror story’ in a viral TikTok, adding that she felt like the ‘s***tiest mom ever’. 

The mom said she put her son to bed at 8pm and check on her two-year-old at 10:30pm before heading to bed. 

‘I open the door. I see him in his bed, he’s perfectly fine.’

And the next morning, to her surprise, she’s being woken up by police in her bedroom.

The woman shared that around 1:45am, she was ‘woken up  by three police officers coming into my bedroom. Not my front door. My bedroom.’

The police wake up her and her husband and tell them that they, ‘found a toddler outside in the front yard, crying and screaming, and cold. We have him outside waiting in an ambulance.’ 

She said: ‘I, just being woken up from a dead sleep, rush into my son’s room to find him not there. And then proceed to run down the stairs, out the door, completely barefoot, with no coat, and down the block to find my son.’ 

And while the mom noted her and her son are now fine, she added that she’ll never be able to forget that terrifying moment.  

‘I did not wake to the baby monitor that is stationed in his room, to the door opening, to police officers knocking on my door, to anything at all,’ she explained.

And it wasn’t just the mom that didn’t hear the sounds of her child, she revealed her husband, mother-in-law and other child didn’t wake up either, adding that their dog didn’t even bark. 

‘No one else in my house woke either until the police officers arrived in my bedroom. 

‘I don’t know how long he was out there. I feel like the s***tiest mom ever 

‘I am not going to sleep well for a very long time,’ she said at the end of her video. 

Although the mom couldn’t help but feel awful for what happened, social media users were quick to give her some comfort by sharing their own stories

One user said: ‘I think all parents have a scare with their little ones getting out. It happened to me. I got the locks for the top of my doors as a secondary measure.’ 

Another user added:  ‘I have one that went to the ER twice and had to call Poison Control within six weeks. I was convinced ‘they’ would take my kids away.’ 

‘My therapist told me this & it helped me over the yrs…”bad parents don’t worry if they are bad parents” be kind to yourself and give yourself grace,’ commented another user. 

‘When my oldest was three he ran into a three-lane highway when I was buckling his little brother into the car seat. he was fine, I was not,’ wrote another user.
