A hero hotel employee made a desperate attempt to save the life of an alleged stabbing victim on Friday, before she died in hospital.
The night-duty manager of the Doubletree Hilton in Darwin helped a heavily bleeding woman, who was believed to be around 50, waiting with her until an ambulance arrived.
The woman, who was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died, was in the Northern Territory city to visit her son in prison.
She had run into the ground floor reception area of the hotel after allegedly being stabbed across the road on The Esplanade at 6pm on Friday, NT police said.
A man was arrested at the scene and remains in custody.

The woman was visiting her son in prison, her brother told NT News.
The Esplanade remains closed, with several police cars and police tape across the road.
Hours before the attack, NT deputy chief minister Nicole Manison had spoken to more than 100 guests and foreign dignitaries at a Minerals Club event at the Doubletree Hilton ballroom.
Police are also investigating an unrelated aggravated assault at the Casuarina Shopping Centre.
A 22-year-old woman remains in custody for allegedly stabbing two people following an argument in the underground carpark area.
Paramedics treated a 41-year-old man at the scene for injuries to his leg, and the 29-year-old woman was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital suffering non-life threatening injuries to her back.
Another man has also been arrested after he allegedly slashed the tyres of a police vehicle.
The man was consuming alcohol in a public place when police approached him, and the alcohol was subsequently destroyed.
Members continued their patrols when the man came to the police vehicle and slashed both rear tyres rendering the vehicle unusable.
