A woman who only goes by her middle name has recalled the bullying she faced as a child that drew her to hate her first name so much she refuses to share it with her followers.

The 34-year-old from Florida, who now only uses her middle name – Damarys – took to TikTok to share her that she was made fun of as a child for her name.

Damarys – who boasts over 130,000 followers on the app – revealed that while it was traumatic for her when she was young, she is now able to look back at it and laugh.

In a video, which garnered over 241,000 views, she recounted the memory that made her refuse to reveal her first name to anyone again as she explained her middle school teacher claimed her name sounded like someone was using the bathroom.

‘Let me tell y’all, I hated my name for so long,’ the 34-year-old said in the clip.

She went on to explain the first instance that started her dislike for her name.

‘In middle school, a teacher in front of the whole class, he said that my name sounded like someone was taking a s***.

‘The whole class just started laughing and I just started crying because like, why would you say that?’ she explained.

Damarys – who now exclusively goes by her middle name – said that the comment stirred up even more bullying outside of the classroom.

She then told her followers another story that ended in tears as she explained how her peers reacted when she joined the dance team.

Damarys said that the team was given T-shirts with ‘rookie names,’ or nicknames on the back.

‘They put my first name on the back of my shirt y’all because they said my name already sounds funny,’ she said.

The 34-year-old who refuses to share her middle name, despite detailing the bullying that came from it, said that uniform prompted teammates to question her about the origin of her ‘nickname.’

‘They had people coming up to me trying to pronounce my d**n name on the back of my shirt and of course, every time we had to wear that d**n shirt I went in the back and cried,’ she said, while laughing.

And while Damarys was able to joke about the experience, she still refuses to share her first name with the world.

After viewers criticized the content creator for not revealing her name, she posted a follow-up video.

‘So, my middle name is Damarys and I think that should suffice. I’m not going to sit here and tell y’all my first name because y’all not about to bring back childhood trauma,’ she explained.

She added that she didn’t ‘owe anybody anything’ and would never be sharing her first name.
