Woman run over by excavator in Brisbane hit-and-run

This is the moment a young woman was mowed down in the middle of an intersection by an excavator that just kept on driving.

CCTV footage showed the 27-year-old crossing the road as the earthmover turned left in Bowen Hills, Brisbane, about 1pm on Thursday. 

The woman disappeared behind the machinery and was next seen lying on the road on Hamilton Place and not moving as it continued past her.

A car then drove up to the intersection before stopping momentarily and driving around her on the wrong side of the road. It was unclear if it later stopped.

Four people were later seen rushing over from the other side of Campbell Street to help her before an ambulance arrived.

The victim was rushed to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital with critical head injuries where she had emergency surgery but was still fighting for life.

The excavator was later found and police believed it may have worked at a nearby railyard

Police questioned the 58-year-old driver of the excavator but released him without charge as investigations continued. He remained a person of interest.
