When caught in an embarrassing situation, you’d hope that your friends would be there to help.
But one woman has revealed how her best mate refused to give her a lending hand when she discovered her period had stained her beige trousers while at the pub.
Taking to Mumsnet, she explained how her period came four days early, leaving a bright red mark.
When she asked to borrow her friend’s jacket to tie around her waist, she said the woman wouldn’t let her – because she’d ‘paid too much money for it’ and ‘didn’t want it ruined’.

Other people on the parenting forum said the woman didn’t sound like a friend, saying the would have happily lent her their jacket
Another said that the friend could have got her jacket dry cleaned afterwards, instead of humiliating the Mumsnet user
Meanwhile, one woman said she ‘shouldn’t have had to ask’ to friend, explaining how she once helped a stranger in a similar situation
Posting under the username Forheavenssake, she said: ‘I actually lost my close friend over my period last weekend!! Last weekend I met with my friend who i have known 19 years! In weathersspoons.
‘And to my absolute horror i leaked all over myself! I was not due until four days later so didn’t expect this at all and no bodily warning signs no cramping, any way we see sat down at this time in one of the booths, my friend was wearing a red dress with a jacket AND bought her coat.’
She continued: ‘I quickly told friend I just leaked and my crotch was now bright red ( the shame ) and could I please use her jacket to just tie around my waist casually just to get home to change/ wash. She said NO!
‘I said please, il wash it if anything gets on it and give it right back the next day! I was pretty much begging her ! She refused and said no she paid to much money for it and didn’t want it ruined!’
Others suggested the friend could have come up with an alternative way to help her, even if she didn’t want to lend her the jacket
Another described how she helped her friend who had a similar experience in a nightclub
One Mumsnet user said she would have instantly handed over her jacket if it’d had happened to a friend of hers
Other Mumsnet users were quick to slam the woman’s friend for refusing to lend her the jacket.
One wrote: ‘She doesn’t sound like a friend to be honest. Poor you, that is horrible.’
Another added: ‘You shouldn’t have had to ask her – she should’ve offered. A real friend would have tried to spare you any further embarrassment’.
However, not everyone agreed, with some suggesting it depended on the colour of the jacket.
One wrote: ‘Depends on the jacket- if it was cream silk any stain would be hard to get out.’
Another commented: ‘tbh it all sounds very dramatic and I’ve been in a similar situation twice. Why couldn’t you use your own jacket? Why did you walk out instead of going to the bathroom?
The woman who shared her story said she’d stormed of the pub after being left humiliated (file photo)
However, not everyone agreed that the woman is in the wrong for not handing over her jacket
One questioned why the Mumsnet user didn’t just go to the bathroom, instead of walking out
Meanwhile, another said it would have made more sense for her to have borrowed the coat
