A woman appeared to smile and giggle as police arrested her at a Melbourne address near where an elderly woman was found laying in a pool of her own blood Thursday night.
Understood to be aged between 20 and 30, the woman of Asian appearance appeared to put on a happy and calm display as police officers handcuffed and escorted her away, Nine News reports.
The 77-year-old woman is in a critical condition in hospital after being found laying on a driveway, not believed to be her own, in St Albans about 7pm.
She was discovered by a male passerby on Willaton Street, who contacted emergency services but left the scene before police arrived.

Officers also want to speak with a man, who was described to be of Middle Eastern appearance, aged in his late 40s to early 50s with a medium build, 170-175cm tall with dark short hair and spoke limited English.
‘At this stage police do not believe he was involved in the assault but will have information that can assist investigators,’ a police statement read.
‘Detectives are also keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or has CCTV or dashcam footage that possibly captured the assault or the events leading up to it.’
Homicide detectives escorted the Asian woman to an unmarked police car on nearby Bent Street.

A woman wearing pink pyjamas was allegedly seen in the area around the time of the assault, Herald Sun reports.
A crime scene has been established as detectives work to determine circumstances surrounding the incident.
Detectives would like to speak to anyone who saw the woman or has information regarding her identity.
