A fitness star tried out the vigorous workout routine that transformed Chris Pratt’s body—and was left so exhausted she declared herself ‘barely alive’.
Jordan Shalhoub followed one of the workout routines given by the 38-year-old actor’s personal trainer, who got him into shape for the 2014 movie, and documented the experience on her YouTube channel.
She was inspired by an interview with Duffy Gaver, who worked with Pratt for five months and remodeled his physique thanks to a mix of bodybuilding and cardio.

Routine: The workout Shalhoub tried combined both strength-based exercises and cardio, organized as rounds of four different movements performed one after the other
‘Chris’ athleticism is amazing. He is incredibly disciplined and his work ethic is phenomenal,’ Gaver told Men’s Fitness. ‘He isn’t the client you have to push; he’s the type of client you have to pull down. If you were to walk into the gym when he was training, you would have thought for sure you’ve got a guy getting ready for the NFL Combine.’
During his long preparation for Guardians Of The Galaxy, Pratt first spend two months doing bodybuilding activities.
He then added conditioning, and in the end did various cardio activities, including mountain biking and swimming.

Challenging: To finish up each round, Shalhoub then had to perform five box jumps, an explosive cardio move that had her jump with both feet on top of a platform (pictured)
Exhausted: Although Shalhoub modified the workout, it still proved challenging. She joked she was ‘barely alive’ and rested on the floor of her gym (pictured)
She began with 800-meter runs followed by 15 power cleans, a weightlifting movement during which the athlete lifts a barbell and brings it on top of their shoulders.
Up next was a set of 10 bench presses, which consist in lying on a weight bench and lifting a barbell above one’s chest.

Due to a time constraint, Shalhoub did three rounds instead of the five prescribed by Pratt’s trainer, and changed certain parameters to adapt them to a female athlete.
Instead of lifting 205 pounds during her bench presses, she went with 95 pounds, and she used a 65-pound barbell instead of 95 pounds for her power cleans.
The athlete also lowered the height of her box from 30 inches to 24.
Feedback: Shalhoub pointed out that it is likely that Pratt’s training was more varied than this single routine, and admitted that the actor’s program had clearly worked for him

Praise: ‘Chris’ athleticism is amazing. He is incredibly disciplined and his work ethic is phenomenal,’ the actor’s trainer Duffy Gaver said in a previous interview
Despite these modifications, the workout proved challenging for Shalhoub, who joked she was ‘barely alive’ while trying to catch her breath, lying on the floor of her gym.
She did however power through the entire routine, and noted that while the workout is overall not bad, she would have done a few things differently to make it ‘fuller’ and ‘more cohesive’.
Shalhoub also pointed out that it is likely that Pratt’s training was more varied than this single routine, and admitted that the actor’s program had clearly worked for him.
‘All in all, it was a good workout. I hate running, and it made me run a whole lot,’ she said. ‘It definitely was exhausting. Three rounds took me just under 20 minutes. You’re running and you’re sweating for almost 20 minutes, or 35 minutes if you’re doing the full five rounds, so at the end of the day it’s a good workout.’
