Woman who had lip fillers is left with ‘sausage’ pout for TWO YEARS

A woman who had lip fillers injected by a ‘beautician’ has revealed how the nightmare treatment left her with a ‘sausage’ pout for two years before finally having it rectified on the BBC’s The Truth About Cosmetic Treatments.

Emma, who appeared on the documentary investigating Britain’s cosmetic industry, had the five-minute procedure after a friend recommended the unqualified beautician.

Upon returning home, her lips started swelling ‘straight away’ but Emma was told that this was ‘normal’ and to just use some frozen peas on her pout.

Still unhappy with her uneven look, she returned to the beautician who injected three more rounds of filler into Emma’s face – leaving her with scarring and swollen lips.

Thankfully, through an organisation called Save Face, she found a surgeon who was able to remove the fillers, and appearing on the programme tonight, she said she finally felt like a ‘new me’ after the procedure.

Speaking to host Dr Michael Mosley, Emma recalled: ‘A colleague at work recommended this lady and it took five minutes and then I was out.

‘I left and I had swelling straight away. I tried to get in contact with her and she told me to put some frozen peas on it and that “It’s normal”.’

When Emma further complained about the uneven lips, the unqualified beautician injected more filler to even them out.

In total, she had four sets of injections — leading to a lot more filler than Emma’s lips could take. 

‘That’s a year after,’ Emma said when pointing to a photograph of herself. ‘The sausage, as I called it is still there. I’ve got a lot of scarring where the pressure has been on my face.’

Worryingly, the person who did Emma’s fillers is still practising. Emma admitted: ‘I know she is, and she’s very rich for it.’

Fortunately, through an organisation called Save Face, Emma discovered a surgeon who was able to remove her fillers by dissolving the chemical found inside it – hyaluronic acid – so the body can then metabolise it. 

‘I can see a difference already,’ confessed an emotional Emma after the procedure. ‘I’m happy crying because I’ve been waiting for this day for two years.

‘I didn’t think it was going to come. I feel like it’s the first step to a new me.’ 

The cosmetic treatments industry is now worth nearly £3billion – that’s double what it was a decade ago, according to the programme. 

Instead of potentially risky surgeries, like face lifts and liposuction, we’re turning to new non-invasive procedures like injectable fillers and fat freezing.

But the UK is one of the only countries in the world where this industry is almost completely unregulated.
