Woman’s body is found in Muswellbrook

A woman’s body has been found in the coalmining town of Muswellbrook, in the Hunter Valley region about three hours’ north-west of Sydney. 

NSW Police launched a critical incident investigation into her death on Tuesday morning after the body was found during a welfare check. 

A crime scene has been established at the address on Sydney Street and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death has begun.

Strike Force Llangollen is carrying out the investigation and the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad has arrived at the scene.

A critical incident team from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District will investigate all other circumstances surrounding the incident.

The woman has not been formally identified, but is believed to be in her 60s. 

The investigation will be subject to an independent review.
