Woman’s bucket list for her cancer-stricken Jack Russell Dexter

A woman has embarked on a bucket list adventure with her cancer-stricken pet dog in the hope of creating happy memories together.

Pet owner Jodi Ryan, from Sydney, started the bucket list seven weeks ago after her beloved Jack Russell named Dexter was tragically diagnosed with terminal cancer.

The pair, who have been inseparable for nine years, are enjoying their final moments after her furry friend was given just months to live.

And ever since the devastating diagnosis, the duo have made the most of every day.

‘Once I got the diagnosis, I was absolutely heartbroken,’ Jodi told the Today show.

Following the shock diagnosis, her friend Nat suggested she should make a list of fun things for them to do together in their final months.

‘She said we have to do a bucket list so that you have all these memories,’ Jodi said.

‘I thought it was an excellent idea because it’s something I could focus on – and I didn’t have to think about what was actually happening.

‘It’s just given me drive and it helps me stay happy with him.’

Appearing on the Channel Nine program on Friday, Dexter ticked off number 25 on the list – to be on television.

The adorable pooch has already completed many things, including camping, fishing, enjoying breakfast in bed, go hiking and eat a burger.

Dexter will do a stand up paddle boarding on Saturday before he goes on a ride in a little convertible over the weekend.

‘And then to finish everything off, we are going to have a big party in the park and invite everybody who helped us out and tick everything off,’ Jodi said.

‘[We just want] to celebrate his life. He looks amazing and he’s so happy, you couldn’t tell that he is sick at all. He’s very good at putting on a show.’

The generous community has been rallying behind the pair to bring their bucket list after their story emerged on social media.

‘We were completely overwhelmed. I posted his bucket list on a Facebook page and within an hour, I had 800 likes and 300 responses,’ Jodi said.

‘Everyone just wanted to help, add different ideas and get his list ticked off.’
