Woman’s plea after she was ignored when she collapsed

A mother who was completely ignored while passed out in the aisle of a busy supermarket has made a emotional plea on social media.

Sydney mother Maria Viveiros Gouveia had come back from taking her young daughter to her in-laws’ when she started feeling unwell.

Entering a store to grab a sweet drink, she collapsed onto the floor drenched in sweat, but not a single person came to her aid during the 10 minutes she lay there.

Ms Gouveia took to a local Facebook group to share her experience, in the hope it will inspire readers to help those in need.

‘Feeling disappointed. What has happened to us?’ she asked on a community page based in the Sutherland Shire.

‘Are we that busy with our phones and social media that we don’t stop to look at what’s around us or if anyone needs help in any way?’

She described her ordeal in detail, explaining how she felt after she was able to leave the shop and recover inside her car.

‘I have never felt like this is my life, I can’t believe with so many people in this world I felt so alone and I felt like no one was around to help.

‘If I [had] seen that I [would have] asked straight away, “Are you okay, do you need any help?”

‘The whole point is, take a bit of time, look what’s around you, people, you can’t be that busy and heartless that you can’t ask if everything is okay.

‘I sat in that car for an hour until I was okay to drive, I’ve never felt so alone in my life and while this was happening all I could think about was my daughter.

‘I was so scared and alone’.

Ms Gouveia’s message has racked up dozens of likes and reactions on Facebook since she posted it on Thursday morning.
