A women’s hockey game between the United States and Germany was halted after American player Caroline Harvey dropped her smartphone on the ice mid-action.

The two teams squared off in the IIHF Women’s World Championships in Czechia.

During a collision in the quarterfinal, the device fell out of someone’s pocket, causing the official to pause the game.

After the referee picked up the phone, it was handed to a German staffer who raised it toward their bench, hoping the owner would come forward.

However, a replay later showed that the phone came off Harvey as she got up from the ice after colliding with one of the German players.

‘I would skate as far away from that phone if I thought to myself; ‘Oh, that might’ve been mine,” the commentary team noted. ‘Where would you keep it?’

Hockey uniforms typically do not have pockets so the phone may have gotten stuck in Harvey’s equipment.

Nonetheless, the Stars and Stripes secured the 3-0 victory with goals from Kelly Pannek, Lacey Eden, and Alex Carpenter. On the other end, Sandra Abstreiter kept Germany from getting buried with 47 saves.

The United States will take on the host nation in their next match on the 19th.

Thursday’s mishap was not the first time a similar incident took place on the rink.

In January, the same incident happened to Ak-Bars Kazan forward Nikita Dynyak during a KHL contest.

“I had it on the shelf behind me, I put it down, took off my elbow pads, and when I turned around, it fell behind me. And I didn’t feel anything.” Dynyak explained at the time.

“Like putting a cigarette behind your ear and not feeling it. I went out and didn’t understand anything at first.”
