A Woolworths employee has revealed his simple checkout trick to streamline your shopping so workers can scan items efficiently and faster.

Liam Kirley, from Sydney, shared a TikTok video showing how he strategically placed the reusable shopping bags and grocery items on the conveyor belt.

‘Put one reusable bag down on the conveyor belt, put all the items you want in that bag [behind it] on the conveyor belt… and repeat the process,’ Liam said.

Instead of handing over all the bags to the cashier before unloading groceries from the trolley, Liam said spacing out the bags and items across the conveyor belt will help speed up the scanning process.

With heavy bulk items, Liam suggested leaving them in the trolley.

‘We can scan it up there,’ he said, adding: ‘Then you’re good to go.’

The video has since been viewed more than 540,000 times, with many supermarket employees saying the trick helped shoppers checkout efficiently every time.

‘When I worked at Woolies, it was a dream when people did this, made my job easier. Now I do it to make other retail worker’s job easier,’ one woman said.

Another wrote: ‘I have a lot of customers who do this. It’s so much easier,’ while one added: ‘I love the customers who do this with their bags – I wish everyone did this.’

Many said it was a ‘great hack’, especially when they are doing a solo shop.

‘Wow love this idea. We will continue to help pack but it’s great when I’m shopping alone,’ one woman wrote.

But those who space out their bags and grocery items claimed the process doesn’t always work for them.

‘I try and put things on the belt like that but they always grab something from further down… and I end up having to rearrange the trolley,’ one wrote.

Another said: ‘Not every checkout worker gets it. I went to Woolies once and did that – and the person reached over and grabbed everything I didn’t wait in the bag.’

While one added: ‘I separate my items into how I want them bagged and the checkout staff reached over and got stuff from the back… every time.’
