  • A shopper has discovered an unusual sound of a rooster crowing at Woolworths
  • Mum said the noise was an alarm alerting employees roast chickens are cooked
  • Once the alarm goes off, staff can package the chooks and put on display to sell

A confused shopper who constantly noticed a ‘rooster crowing’ every time she visited Woolworths has discovered the sound was actually alerting employees that the hot roast chickens were cooked.

Australian mum Emma was doing her regular grocery shop when she noticed the unusual sound coming from the rotisserie oven behind the deli counter.

She later realised the noise was notifying staff members the freshly cooked roast chickens were ready to be packaged into bags and put on display in the hot food cabinet.

Poll

Have you ever heard the sound of a rooster crowing at Woolworths?

‘Am I the only one that just realised this sound means the chickens are ready at Woolies?’ she said in her TikTok video.

‘Have heard this for months at our local and my seven-year-old and I are always wandering what it’s for.’

A Woolworths spokesman confirmed to Daily Mail Australia the rooster crowing is the sound of the alarm from the rotisserie oven to alert team members cooking is complete.

The sound of the alarm is set by the manufacturer.

The rooster crowing has been around Woolworths stores for years, with many shoppers sharing their experiences about the unusual noise they heard in stores.

‘For the second time, I’ve been near the deli at Woolworths and hear a rooster crow. Is this an audio track attempt at a fresh farmyard vibe, or are chickens going into the barbecuing oven much fresher than I would think? Anyone else had this experience?’ one woman wrote.

Some shoppers revealed they knew exactly what the noise was.

‘It’s their alarm telling the deli staff when the roast chickens are cooked,’ one said.

Earlier this year, a thrifty shopper revealed the exact time Woolworths roast chickens go on sale for a fraction of the price.

Hot chooks are marked down after four hours at the store manager’s discretion in a bid to reduce waste and guarantee freshness.

The time the chickens are taken from the oven are printed on the bag, so all shoppers need to do is return to the store four hours later for their chance to take home a cut-price chook.

A Woolworths spokesperson confirmed at the time that store managers can mark down deli items after four hours at their own discretion.
