World’s most expensive parking ticket: Russian jet left at German airport after start of Ukraine war has run up £383,000 in fines

A Russian jet left at a German airport after the start of the Ukraine war has run up £383,000 in fines.

The Russian plane landed at Munich Airport on February 27, 2022, three days after Russia launched its attack on Ukraine.

But when the German airspace was closed to Russian flights shortly after, the silver-blue Aeroflot jet was grounded for more than two years, according to local media.

While the Airbus A320-200 was stranded at Munich Airport, its parking fees continued to mount, with costs of £280 to £465 (340-560 euros) per day quickly racking up to the record-breaking amount of £383,000 (460,000 euros).

The massive fine has likely earned the Russian plane the world’s most expensive parking ticket.

When the German airspace was closed to Russian flights shortly after the start of the Ukraine war, the silver-blue Russian Aeroflot jet was grounded for more than two years. The plane was last seen parked near a fence at Munich Airport’s Terminal 2

The plane was finally picked up from Munich Airport on June 10 this year after being grounded there for 834 days

The Aeroflot crew on board the grounded plane reportedly took a Turkish Airlines flight to return home.

Earlier this year, it was reported that the jet didn’t actually belong to Aeroflot, as the Russian airline had only leased the aircraft from Chinese company CMB Financial Leasing.

CMB now wanted its plane back to rent it out to someone else instead, but before it could be moved, the aircraft had to undergo extensive maintenance to make sure it was fit to fly.

The jet was last seen parked near a fence at Munich Airport’s Terminal 2, before it was picked up and took off towards the Czech Republic on June 10 – 834 days after it arrived in Munich.

The massive bill for the parking fines had to be paid by CMB, according to German tabloid Bild.
