  • Bottle decorated with 6.6lbs of gold, 6.6lbs of silver and diamond-encrusted cap
  • It was recovered from a construction site in the city on Friday – but it was empty
  • Owner of the bar it was stolen from says it’s the bottle itself that’s valuable

The world’s most expensive bottle of vodka reported stolen from a bar in Denmark earlier this week has been found on a construction site – empty of its contents.

Copenhagen police say the bottle itself – which is said to be worth £960,000 – was recovered intact three days after it was stolen on Tuesday.

It appears that the thieves failed to understand where its true value lies, as the bar owner says the bottle can easily be refilled in Russia.

The bottle of Russo-Baltique – the only one in the world – was stolen from Cafe 33 bar in Copenhagen on Tuesday morning.

It is decorated with 6.6lbs of gold, 6.6lbs of silver and a diamond-encrusted cap and was designed to look like a vintage car front.

The bottle had been a loan from a Russian businessman to bar owner Brian Ingberg, who has 1,200 different vodka bottles in his venue.

The perpetrators, who were caught on CCTV were wearing baseball caps and gloves and covered their faces with clothing.

On Friday, Mr Ingberg said that he received a call from person who claimed to have found the vessel at a construction site in the city, and was handing it over to the police.

‘Unfortunately, it is empty. Somebody who works at the construction site found it,’ Mr Ingberg told Ekstra Bladet.

‘It is the bottle that was valuable. We can refill it with vodka in Russia,’
