World’s most popular Airbnb is a tiny mushroom-shaped cabin in the woods near San Francisco

Hidden in the middle of the woods in northern California is a tiny wooden cabin which has become AirBnb’s most popular rental.

The listing by owners Kitty and Michael which is around 90 miles south of San Francisco in Aptos has been on the popular accommodation website almost since it was launched in July 2009.

The mushroom-shaped cabin was in fact one of the first postings that offered a bed for the night situated outside of a major city. It’s unique appearance and location have made it the most visited property in the world. It is so popular, it is fully booked until October.

In fact, in order to score the $130-a-night cabin, it has to be booked at least five months in advance for a one night stay.

The cabin, which can sleep three guests at a time, has had almost 1,300 reviews from guests who have given it five stars for cleanliness, value and location.

The main bedroom boasts a queen sized bed with a Casper mattress, as well as a 32′ flat screen TV. A couch also turns into a sofa bed creating a second sleeping area.

The Dome also has a tiny bathroom, which has no door but is shielded by a curtain, and houses a Travertine shower, a custom tiled sink and a Natures Head composting toilet – meaning toilet paper all has to go in the bin.

Despite being remote and off the grid, the cabin comes with all mod cons including wifi, fridge, popcorn maker and coffee machine. Guests can use the outdoor barbecue and cook out on the deck.

The popular cabin, which has to be booked at least five months in advance for just a night’s stay, is a ‘geodesic dome loft’

The cabin has two beds and sleeps three people. It also has a TV and DVD player in the bathroom and a bedside table lamp

One unique feature of the cabin is its glass-domed ceiling which allows those staying to gaze at the heavens above. With very little light pollution in the woods, the Milky Way can be clear seen while simply lying on the bed.

Many choose to stay in the cabin for stargazing, thanks to the glass domed roof, which is perfect for looking at the stars.

Before settling down to sleep guests have to climb a ladder into the top of the dome where the bed is hidden away.

The Dome has a tiny bathroom that has no door, but there is a curtain for privacy. Toilet paper has to go in the trash, with waste being dealt by a composting toilet
