Worst tattoos from this year’s schoolies celebrations

As thousands of school leavers enter the last week of Schoolies, social media continues to highlight the best and worst moments from this year’s celebrations.

And while getting a tattoo is seen by some as a rite of passage into adulthood, many Schoolies were spotted with rather questionable inkings.

A popular design many young adults sought out was the ibis, a common Australian scavenger bird which many consider a pest.

The bird has found an unlikely friend in Schoolies getting their first tattoo, artist Luke Braniff said.

‘We did about six ibis tattoos doing different poses like smoking, eating or drinking,’ Mr Braniff told the Gold Coast Bulletin.

‘The Ibis has really taken off.’

Jarod Woldhnis had two variations of the bird tattooed on him – one smoking and another drinking.

The 18-year-old told the publication he wanted to collect all the ibis pictures from a tattoo lucky dip machine at Crossfire Tattoos in Surfers Paradise.

Lucky dip tattoo options are a popular way for those who desire some ink but don’t quite know what to choose.

There are six different Ibis inkings to pick from at Crossfire Tattoos which are sure to drive their popularity.

Many tattoo parlors across the nation have been spotted advertising flash tattoo sales as school leavers flock to get some new ink in celebration.

Another popular design was the Surfers Paradise post code and the logo’s of fast food chains, such as McDonald’s.

Two girls were seen sporting a fresh inking of the KFC logo on their feet, much to the surprise of their tattoo artist Dai Tanabe.

Mr Tanabe told the Bulletin he had to ask the girls to repeat their odd request for the favourite fried chicken food chain.

Not all tattoos were quirky though, with many sporting floral or geometric designs.

With Bali an alternative option for Schoolies celebrations, many flock to the resort island to be inked.
