Wrexham star Ben Tozer reveals that he would REJECT Saudi Arabia in favour of Ryan Reynold’s ‘exciting ‘side despite financial lure
Wrexham captain Ben Tozer would reject a move to Saudi Arabia despite the financial lure in favour of remaining in Wales, he has revealed.
The former Newcastle player enjoyed a successful season captaining the side owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
And he has now revealed, that if offered the chance to move to the Saudi Pro League, he would rather remain at the Welsh side.
He told talkSPORT: ‘Listen, the money is the money, of course. In Saudi Arabia, that is something that sets them and their families up for life and you can’t really begrudge them.
‘But playing for this club is so exciting at the moment. It’s really on the up. The stadium sells out every week, we won a trophy last year, we are hoping to emulate that again this season.
Ben Tozer believes Wrezham are a side ‘on the up’ and is thankful to be at the club as captain
Wrexham won the National League under Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s ownership
Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the biggest names playing in Saudi Arabia, for Al-Nassr
‘It’s on the up. All the noise around the club, whether you like it or you don’t, it’s exciting and positive. So it’s a great place to be and I’m thankful I’m here.’
Having won the National League, Wrexham are targetting back-to-back promotions as they seek League Two triumph next season.
They have been heavily linked with a move for former Manchester United player Nick Powell in recent weeks and are actively looking to improve their squad ahead of the new season.
And with the ambitions of the Hollywood owners, Tozer believes that staying put in Wales would be more tempting for him than a move to Saudi Arabia.
The likes of N’Golo Kante, Ruben Neves, Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly and Karim Benzema have all made the switch to the Middle East this summer.
Players have been offered huge deals to move to the Saudi Pro League, with Liverpool star Thiago Alcantara the latest in a succession of names linked.
While Tozer himself has not been linked with a move to link up with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Nassr, the Wrexham captain is perfectly happy living the dream in Wales.
