Wrexham have unveiled a new third kit that they weren’t allowed to use in the National League.

Co-owner Rob McElhenney tweeted to say that he has been trying to ensure that the Welsh side had a black kit for the last three years.

Due to National League rules that wasn’t possible but following Wrexham’s promotion to League Two they are now permitted to have a black kit.

McElhenney wrote on Twitter: ‘I’ve been trying to get this one made for 3 years. Under national league rule, we couldn’t have a black kit. Not a problem anymore ;)’.

Wrexham posted a promotional video in which they described the kit as a ‘masterpiece’.

Wrexham’s third shirt includes a red trim on the sleeves and the rear of the shirt. It also has a pattern on the front that is inspired by Wrexham and North Wales’ coal mining history.

It has a button-up collar design and includes the Welsh Dragon on the reverse of the shirt.

Meanwhile, Wrexham’s away shirt is white and includes a dark green stripe down the centre as well as red stripes on either side.

Wrexham, who are co-owned by McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, are facing the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United as part of their pre-season programme.
