Wrexham will kick off a select number of EFL games to be broadcast live in immersive reality venues in the USA next week.

The League One club, owned by Hollywood duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, will have their fixture against Barnsley on Tuesday screened live by CBS Sports at Cosm’s theatres with 180 degree domed screens, in Los Angeles and Dallas.

It will be the first of six games selected featuring Championship promotion chasers Leeds, Sheffield United and Burnley, with more to follow including Wrexham’s clash with Birmingham City.

The other fixtures selected are:

  • Wrexham v Barnsley – Tuesday 3 December,
  • Sheffield United v Burnley – Thursday 26 December
  • Wrexham v Birmingham City – Thursday 23 January
  • Coventry City v Leeds United – Saturday 8 February
  • Huddersfield Town v Wrexham – Tuesday 4 March

Earlier this season, scenes from inside Cosm Los Angeles caused a stir online when Manchester United’s victory against Fulham was beamed on the big screen.

Ticket holders were afforded a staggering view

The cameras replicate a front row seat experience

Footage from inside the LA theatre during Manchester United’s win against Fulham went viral

The venue, which describes itself as a ‘experiential hub’, showed the match on its 87-foot LED screen, in what Cosm described as ‘shared reality’.

The view was effectively a simulation of being inside Old Trafford, with the crowd at the stadium blending into the wider environment at the theatre.

Camera angles switched depending on where the ball was in play, meaning those inside the venue were placed at the front row to watch every kick in luxury.

However, the experience did not come cheap.

Tickets for the experience could be bought from level one to level three of the ‘Cosm dome’ – with prices ranging from $66 (£50.99) to $132 (£101.98).

The most commonly displayed price was $83 (£64.12).

The latest arrangement, which will see EFL fixtures introduced into Cosm’s schedule, has been made possible through CBS’ partnership with the cutting-edge technology firm.

Cosm install several discreet 8K cameras around a stadium to capture every angle, with no interruption to the regular production output.

This is then stitched together to create a unique wide-angle effect for viewers.
